Anonymous launches cyber-attacks against China

In Asia on April 5, 2012 at 3:08 pm

Beijing, China — Anonymous, a loosely associated group of e-activists and hackers, has claimed responsibility for the attack on almost 500 Chinese websites.

They claim they initiated the cyber-attacks to protest the strict control the Chinese government exercises over its population.

The sites affected by the website displayed a message calling for the Chinese people to protest their government and linked to a website that would ensure their anonymity online. A message directed at the Chinese government read: “Dear Chinese government, you are not infallible, today websites are hacked, tomorrow it will be your vile regime that will fall,” which was posted on 485 Chinese websites.

China has one of the most comprehensive web surveillance systems in the world, known as the Great Firewall of China, that reinforces its excessive policing of China’s population.

Despite all this, the Chinese government denies the attacks occurred.
